Southern Council Conservation Grants
Southern Council conservation grants are budgeted annually. Application deadline is June 30.
NOTE: The board had decided to budget $2,500 for conservation grants for 2017. We will have grants available for up to $1000 per chapter. Applications will be accepted through June 30 and will be awarded by October.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to broaden funding sources for their projects and to not solely rely on Southern Council funds. Active financial and in-kind partnerships greatly enhance a project's chances of being funded by the Southern Council.
Conservation grants are given on a competitive basis. Proposed projects will be judged on their merits and the degree to which one or more Southern Council clubs are involved. Clubs are especially encouraged to submit conservation project funding requests that address problems, issues or concerns on or related to the club's home waters.
CONSERVATION PROJECT GRANT REQUEST
Thank you for your interest in an FFI-SOC Conservation Grant. Please read the following instructions/check list for each section to insure your grant application is completed in full. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Section I – Contact Information
The group/organization requesting FFI-SOC grant money is a 501(c)3 and the application includes a copy of the organization’s 501(c)3 status. If the applying organization does not have a 501(c)3, another organization involved in the project has agreed to be the recipient of the grant money and a copy of their 501(c)3 is attached. Please note: Charter clubs of the Fly Fishers International are not required to provide 501c3 copies.
Two project contacts are listed with all contact information included.
Section II – Project Information
Project title, location, and private or public land designation is listed. If the project is on private land an explanation of the public benefits to the project is included.
Project description details the history and extent of the problem as well as the specific solution to the problem.
Project timeline and responsibility includes the estimated start and end date of the project as well as the organization/individual taking the lead on the project.
Project goal listed (example: Restore 1-mile of in-stream habitat and increase trout populations by 10% over a 3 year period.) Project benefits include all that benefit from the project (i.e. improved ecosystem, public awareness, public health – increased fish/aquatic species populations, etc.)
Section III – Media Plan/Follow Up
Two media outlets have been listed. One of these sources can be FFI club or Southern Council news. The overreaching goal of the media plan, however, is to disseminate information to the general public to gain interest in fisheries and the FFI.
The chapter contacts will advise the SOC about the progress of the project and report when it is completed.
Section IV – Budget
An itemized list of all project expenses is included (a budget spreadsheet should be included if the project is large enough to warrant it). If known, project expenses that the grant money is being applied to are specified.
All organizations and government agencies that have pledged funding to this project are listed.
All FFI clubs that have pledged funding or volunteer hours to this project are listed and estimated volunteer numbers and hours are given.
The Project costs and sources chart is filled out in full. Date funds are needed is listed as well as the person submitting the grant.
FFI Conservation Grants Program
The Fly Fishers International also has a grant program where they offer up to $3,000 to a chapter for a conservation grant. Application accepted year round for one of these grants. To find the latest on these and fill-able application forms visit https://www.flyfishersinternational.org/Conservation/Projects-Programs/Conservation-Grants .
If you plan to submit a grant from the FFI or if you want to use a fill-in form, you may use their fill-in form for the SOC Grant. The FFI Grant form requires more information than the SOC form.
